Increased Libido with Melanotan 2

Can Melanotan 2 Increase Libido?

Melanotan II (Melanotan 2) is a peptide that replicates the hormone responsible for stimulating melanogenesis in your body. When the alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone binds with melanocortin receptors, the outcome is the stimulation of melanin in skin cells.

In addition, human studies have found that alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone exerts potent influence over sexual libido, appetite, and lipid metabolism. Using Melanotan II has been proven in clinical studies to exhibit libido enhancing (increasing sexual desire), an appetite suppressant, and lipolytic effects on top of promoting skin tanning without sun exposure with few adverse effects.

Various studies have been conducted on the Melanotan peptide for its protective properties against harmful ultraviolet radiation effects from sun rays. This is due to its exceptional melanogenesis stimulating properties.

In addition, several studies comparing the similarities between Melanotan II and PT-141 show that both of these peptides can be used as a potent treatment for sexual dysfunction including male ED erectile dysfunction and low sex drive [1].

Melanotan 2 Peptide Development

The initial synthetic Melanotan II peptide was created by the UA (University of Arizona), a public research university. During a study aimed at developing a defence against skin cancer, the focus was put on developing a way of stimulating the natural melanin production in the skin, or natural melanogenesis, without direct exposure to ultraviolet radiation in sunlight, which are harmful [2].

University of Arizona researchers tried administering the occurring hormone, melanocyte-stimulating hormone, to human subjects to elicit the desired result. Unfortunately, although the strategy showed promising outcomes, it discovered that this occurring melanocyte-stimulating hormone had a very short half-life considered of practical use as a curative remedy.

The positive results from melanocyte-stimulating hormone administration encouraged more research into the Melanotan I and Melanotan II peptide development, exhibiting similar effects while having a half-life extended for practical therapeutic use.

Studies and Further Research on Melanotan 2 Peptide

Melanotan 1 and Melanotan 2 are analogues of the peptide hormone α-MSH (α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone) that induce skin tanning. Melanotan 2, unlike Melanotan 1, has also proven to have aphrodisiac properties, which is the more positive effect of increasing sex drive and sexual arousal (libido). MT 2 is a cyclic heptapeptide analogue of the α-MSH (α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone) [3].

Also, Melanotan 2 underwent clinical trials into the effects on food intake and metabolism of lab mice. Results showed that Melanotan 2 had activated the central melanocortin when induced and fed to the mice.

Furthermore, the 6-day treatment of Melanotan 2 has revealed that the peptide reduced the adipose tissue and body weight in the mice’s viscera and suppressed the intake of calories. Explore Melanotan 2 from Direct Peptides.

Using the Melanotan 2 injections had other effects including reducing serum insulin levels and the levels of cholesterol more than control treatments. Moreover, it suggested that Melanotan 2 injection lowers acetylcholine (ACh) A carboxylase expression.

It also prevents palmitoyl transferase I mRNA and carnitine reduction in muscle-type tissues through pair-feeding in the obese rats’ muscles. Melanotan II peptides indeed increased fat catabolism in muscles and also improved cholesterol metabolism.

α-MSH Analogues (Melanotan Peptides)

α-MSH (αlpha-Melanocyte-stimulating hormone) is an endogenous hormone that belongs to the melanocortin family. It is regarded as the most important MSH in melanogenesis stimulation, a process in mammals responsible for skin and hair pigmentation.

Furthermore, the αlpha-Melanocyte-stimulating hormone plays a role in energy homeostasis, feeding behaviour, and sexual activity (Melanotan 2 and Bremelanotide). Both peptides are nonselective agonists of the melanocortin receptors MC5, MC4, MC3, and MC1. Melanotan I and Melanotan II activate the MC1 receptor, responsible for the effects on skin pigmentation [3].

PT-141 (Bremelanotide) and Melanotan stimulate the MC4 and MC3 receptors, responsible for regulating sexual behaviour, metabolism and appetite. But, PT-141 Bremelanotide doesn’t stimulate the MC1 receptor. Check out PT-141 from Direct Peptides today!

Several synthetic analogues of the a-MSH are studied for their photoprotective effects against UV (ultraviolet) radiation from sunlight.

Bremelanotide, another analogue of Melanotan II, is being developed for sexual dysfunction treatment. All these Melanotan peptides have higher potencies than an αlpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone but with unique selectivity peptide profiles [1].

The Effects of Melanotan 2 Peptide

To conclude, Melanotan II is a synthetic peptide that has been associated with increased sexual motivation, sexual function, sexual stimulation, increased sexual desire, and erectile activity, in addition to tanning without the need for UV exposure.

It acts similarly to a natural hormone in our bodies known as “melanocyte-stimulating hormone” which is believed to enhance sexual functions.

Studies have shown that a significant proportion of doses of Melanotan II were reported by male and female humans subjects experienced an increase in sexual desire compared to a placebo [4].

Furthermore, Bremelanotide (PT-141), an acid derivative of Melanotan II, has been shown to increase erectile function, suggesting potential use for treating sexual dysfunction. However, it’s important to note that the use of Melanotan II can be accompanied by side effects such as weight loss, facial flushing, severe nausea and yawning.

Despite the huge surge in social media influencers on social media platforms promoting Melanotan II nasal sprays in the quest for bronzed skin it is important to note that it is currently an unregulated product in some countries for human consumption due to safety reasons, and is the subject of further investigation.
